In the past four months the Jackson county Sheriff’s Office and other surrounding counties have experienced a high volume of day time residential burglaries. During this time period, law enforcement agencies in those jurisdictions have combined their efforts to identify possible suspects who have committed over thirty seven burglaries covering South Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. This string of burglaries has revealed many similarities including the type of articles reported stolen from these residences and the time of day they occurred. Some of the items reported stolen were firearms and electronics.

In the early morning hours of February 23rd deputy sheriffs’ from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office investigated two burglaries located in Southeast Jackson County off Highway 71, near the Calhoun County line. Shortly after one of the burglaries occurred, a suspect vehicle became stuck in a ditch on a dirt road located a few miles away. The suspects walked to a nearby residence, stole a truck that was parked in the yard and pulled the immobilized vehicle out of the ditch. During this process of freeing the immobilized vehicle, the rear bumper was ripped loose from the vehicle and was left at the scene along with the truck. Stolen from inside the truck were a shotgun and other articles. The subjects then continued into Calhoun County where two additional burglaries occurred. Investigators from the Jackson and Calhoun County Sheriff’s Offices immediately joined forces to identify possible suspect(s) and suspect vehicle(s) involved in these burglaries. The bumper found at the crime scene in Jackson County was identified to have come from a 2000-2006 Pewter colored Nissan Sentra. On Feb 25th a gun taken from one of the burglaries in Calhoun County was identified as having been pawned in the DeFuniak Springs area. The Walton County Sheriff’s Office notified Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office of the transaction involving the stolen gun being pawned. The Calhoun and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office continued their combined efforts to identify the parties responsible.

Late on the afternoon of Wednesday February 26th, the Worth County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on a Nissan Sentra for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle would not stop and a pursuit ensued until the vehicle being ensued left the roadway and overturned in a ditch. The passenger, a white female approximately 35 years of age armed herself with two hand guns. She made threatening and aggressive gestures towards the officers and was subsequently shot and killed by Georgia officers. The driver, a white male approximately 37 years of age, surrendered without further incident. Contained in the vehicle were several firearms that were linked back to
