Holiday Burglaries

The Marianna Police Department would like to remind the community that the holiday season is already in full swing and residential and vehicle burglaries increase during this time of the year. Here are some tips that can save some headache and frustration:

Vehicle Burglaries:

1. Lock your vehicle’s doors when you exit. Even if you are only stepping away from it for a few moments, it is still a good idea to lock your doors. It only takes a few seconds for a thief to steal your valuables.


2. Never leave your car unattended while it is running.


3. Do not leave valuables, especially cash, wallets, and purses, in your vehicle.


4. Always lock your vehicle’s doors at night time. It only takes a second to check to make sure they are locked.

Residential Burglaries:

1. Make sure all doors and windows are locked before leaving your house.


2. While you are home it is still a good idea to keep your doors locked.


3. When leaving your house and you have an alarm system, do not forget to arm it.


4. Once Christmas has passed do not place the boxes in which expensive items come in by the road for normal trash pick-up. If you do, you are only displaying to thieves that you have brand new expensive items in your house or vehicle.

Lastly, wherever you drive do it safely and take your time.
