Families across the nation are remembering lives that were taken too quickly. September 25th marks national homicide victims remembrance day. Here in the Wiregrass many of those families gathered to pay respect.
District Attorney Doug Valeska tells WDHN, that having this day of remembrance is one more way to bring justice to victims and their families.
" It's not about me, today's about our victims. They should never be forgotten and people don't understand until it happens to them or their family, victims today tomorrow and forever they have rights." said District Attorney Doug Valeska
Katina Williams lost her son Joey, seven years ago, she says days like this help her remember how important he was to her.
" When you loose a love one, when you lose a family member in such a horrific way, in such an unexpected way. You loose the days that you would normally celebrate together." said Katrina Williams
