Houston County Commission Administrative Meeting

HOUSTON COUNTY:    The Houston County Commission met today for the Administrative Meeting. This meeting is where the items on the agenda are discussed but no official action can be taken until Monday.


The Houston County Commission will appoint Edna McLoyd to the Houston County Library System.


The Houston County Commission will approve and advertise legislation calling for a referendum on the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sunday in Houston County. The municipalities with a vote of the local council can opt out of the legislation. This item will require a vote of the registered voters of Houston County.


The Houston County Commission will approve and advertise legislation that will give the Probate Judge, if a licensed attorney in Alabama, the same powers as Circuit Court in matters filed in Probate Court. If the parties are unhappy with the decision of the Probate Court, the decision will be appealed in the same manner as items from Circuit Court. Currently, if the parties are unhappy with the decision of Probate Court, the item is appealed to Circuit Court.


Probate Judge Patrick Davenport is a licensed attorney in the State of Alabama. This issue will require a vote of the registered voters in Houston County.


The Houston County Commission will approve a advertise legislation to add a process service fee for the service of court documents. Those funds would be deposited into a fund and used solely for law enforcement purposes. One purpose would be the rotation of the fleet of vehicles for the Sheriff Department.


The commission will reject bids of bituminous coated roadway drainage pipe and rebid.


The commission will approve items to be sold on GovDeals. So far the sale of items on GovDeals has produced twice what the Commission expects.


A citizen complained to the Commission about a noise ordinance. Chairman Culver said the Commission does not have the authority to pass ordinances. THANK YOU AND WE DON 'T WANT THEM TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


The Houston County Commission will meet Monday at 10 AM for the official action on these items
