DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY: Members of the Dothan - Houston County E 911 met today for their meeting. The meeting consists of two bodies, one being the Advisory Committee and the second being the actual board.
The Advisory Board voted to approve a $ 324,000 purchase of Computer Aided Dispatch software, contingent on the City of Dothan and Houston County approving the purchase of their portion of the software,
The 911 is responsible for receiving, dispatching and transmitting of emergency calls. This software is a new and modern version from Southern Software. It enables immediate information being available to officers and dispatchers about the caller and the location of the call. The system will immediately list the last 10 calls to the particular address.
The system has features within the department to maintain information on records, jail management, inventory and other features of information within the department. That portion will have to be purchased by the City of Dothan, which is about $ 400,000.00 and Houston County which is about $ 300,000.00.
The total costs of all of the system is about 1 million dollars.
The Houston County Sheriff Department will have to replace about 95 computers. Their computers have not been on a rotation basis. For Houston County to go to the new system they will have to get new computers. The Southern Solutions Software said the computers are used in patrol cars for officers to be dispatched on.
Dothan Police Chief Greg Benton said all computers in the Dothan Police cars are compatible with the new software and no new computers would be needed by the Dothan Police Department.
Since the computers will be utilized for dispatch, Dothan - Houston County 911 can purchase the computers for the Sheriff Department if requested.
