On 5-21-15 The Houston County Alabama Sheriff’s Office contacted the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and agencies along the I-10 corridor towards Pensacola in reference to an armed domestic assault that had occurred near Cottonwood Alabama in the early morning hours.

Houston County relayed information indicating that the suspect, William Brian James, travelled to Mississippi after the domestic incident had been reported to law enforcement in Alabama. Alabama authorities developed intelligence that James might be returning to the Houston County area by way of the Florida panhandle.

He reportedly sent texts to individuals and made social media posts, of which the content was of great concern to law enforcement. As a result, an officer safety bulletin, along with a BOLO (Be on The Lookout), was issued for the tri-state area.

At approximately 12:33 pm Cottondale Police Chief William Watford observed the vehicle traveling northbound on Hwy 231. Several units from the Sheriff’s Office responded to assist and a traffic stop was affected on Hwy 231 near Hwy 162.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Jackson County Correctional Facility as a fugitive from justice. He is expected to be returned to Alabama to face charges.

Several loaded firearms were recovered from the front passenger compartment of the vehicle including a loaded, cocked, Beretta pistol found between his feet on the floorboard.

At the time of the domestic incident, the victim had a protection order against James, which prohibits the possession of firearms or ammunition.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Cottondale Police Department and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and cooperation in bringing this matter to a safe conclusion.
