This morning at Northview High School students got the opportunity to see and speak to the man that wrote the Alma Mater. David Hogg; a student at Dothan High School wrote the words to the Northview Alma mater. Today he got the opportunity to explain to the students how he came about writing the words.
It all came about in 1978 when the building process of a second high school began; a writing contest was held to see who would get the privilege of writing this important song. The song has with stood a lot of years thus far and will continue to stand firm for years to come. Mr. Hogg explained how every verse would impact the students that went there.
The Northview Alma mater goes as follows;
Alma Mater Northview High School
Shining light to guide our youth
Lead us forward striving onward
To goals of peace and truth
Wisdom and duty you have taught us
Friends you’ve joined us hand in hand
We proudly bear your banner
In our lives across the land
On our hearts are sealed the colors
Deep maroon and shining gold
Symbolizing and sprit stand bold
Till we reach our destination
Looking back on days gone by
Proudly we will rally round you Alma Mater Northview High
Each phrase has meaning in life. Mr. Hogg said at the time he wrote the words the two schools were still joined as one. He stated that “he wrote it mostly about people because we’re all friends and I think it will always be that way.”
For no matter what school you graduate from it will always be your school no matter how much time goes by. Even today he still attends the Dothan High –Northview Football games and sits with his Alma Matter, Dothan High School. He will always be known as the Dothan High student that wrote the Alma matter for Northview.
When you read the Northview Alma matter or even your own, take a second and think about what each fraise means and how it relates to your life even today.
