How Would You Get Bay County Spring Break Under Control and Keep It Under Control

PANAMA CITY BEACH-- Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen talks about spring break violence in a Saturday afternoon press conference. Sheriff McKeithen is very pointed, very clear and precise about his thoughts and feelings about spring break.


How did spring break get out of control? What do you do?


It is very apparent, all of Panama City Beach and Bay County makes money during spring break. The law enforcement agencies gets a lot of equipment and resources because the revenue has got to be so tremendous with so many people in Bay County during this time.


And yes, society is different. There is not the respect for law enforcement, but then again, often times officers do not have the respect for citizens as once had. So there is a two edged sword. Not critical of law enforcement when making that statement. But respect is a two way street.


In law enforcement defense, when you see the problems recurring and making no dent or headway into the problems, the law enforcement officers get tired of dealing with the same issues. But, that is part of being a law enforcement officer.


When taking the approach, which Sheriff McKeithen is famous for, zero tolerance, kick butt and take names later, there are those which are critical.


But the Sheriff has a point, he is responsible for the law enforcement officers safety and those persons being in Bay County. So it is better to keep it under control then to get it under control.


MAN...I have not said anything, because what do you say?


The Sheriff, the only elected law enforcement officer. He is to know his people, his county and how to handle things. What an awesome responsibility. On one hand, he has to look after Bay County and the revenue spring break brings in. On the other hand, he has to get a situation that is out of control under control. How does he do that and not affect the revenue of the county and the business community.


Sheriff McKeithen will make a paycheck regardless. The business community, this is the time for them to make their money.

A interesting topic in my mind. I support law enforcement, or rather the honest ones. Sheriff McKeithen is one of the honest ones.


What would you do if Sheriff, in keeping the safety balance with the community income balance? How would you get Bay County spring break under control and keep it under control?
