I-65 Reopens Following Death of AL DOC Inmate Hit by Commercial Vehicle

AUTAUGA CO., AL (According to WSFA) -Authorities are confirming that the victim who was hit and killed Wednesday afternoon along Interstate 65 was an Alabama Department of Corrections inmate who was working along the roadside.


First responders and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Troopers responded to the scene in the northbound lanes near the Autauga/Chilton county line where the DOC inmate was pronounced dead. Investigators say he was struck by a commercial vehicle.


All northbound traffic at the site were blocked for some time before authorities were able to clear the scene and reopen the roadway.


The inmate's name has not been released pending notification of relatives.


An investigation is ongoing.
