Bill Johnson for Governor Campaign
Today, Bill Johnson, former Director of Economic and Community Affairs for the State of Alabama and now Republican candidate for Alabama Governor, announced results of a polygraph test. The purpose of the polygraph test was to determine the truthfulness of statements made by Johnson regarding Riley’s acceptance of Mississippi Choctaw Indians money.
Johnson recently announced that he was told by Dan Gans of Alabama Governor Riley’s 2002 gubernatorial committee that Governor Riley had accepted $3 million in campaign contributions from Choctaw Indians. Johnson has said that the Mississippi Choctaw Indian campaign money has influenced and dictated recent actions of Alabama Governor Bob Riley in regard to electronic bingo .
Following Johnson’s remarks, Governor Riley’s staff said that Johnson was not telling the truth. Johnson said that he would be willing to take a polygraph test and urged Governor Riley and Dan Gans, Riley’s campaign aid, to also take the test. As of yet, neither Riley nor Gant has accepted the polygraph challenge.
This morning in Montgomery, Bill Johnson with Polygraph Examiner, Clyde Wolfe, by his side announced that Johnson has taken and passed the polygraph test as to his truthfulness in this issue. The polygraph examiner is from Birmingham, Alabama and has conducted over 35,000 tests since 1977. Johnson has been involved in all of Bob Riley’s campaigns over the last 14 years to include both Congress and Governor. Until June of this year, Johnson served as a member of Riley’s cabinet as Director of ADECA. Riley was also best man in Johnson’s wedding.
While Riley is not a candidate in 2010 governor’s race Johnson believes both Democrats and Republicans should tell the truth and be accountable for their actions. Johnson said the actions he has seen of Riley has made him see the hypocrisy and has made him announce Riley’s apparent acceptance of Choctaw Indian money.
What is the relevance of Riley taking Mississippi Choctaw Indian money as campaign donations and electronic bingo?
In a 2006 congressional report ordered by Senator John McCain, it was found that Indian contributions were made to the Riley campaign to stop electronic bingo in Alabama. By stopping electronic bingo in Alabama it would give the Indians a monopoly because Riley nor the State of Alabama would have no jurisdiction over the Indians or Mississippi. If Mississippi Indians stop Alabama bingo that means no money or jobs for Alabama but means more money for Mississippi.
Should Riley’s refusal to take a polygraph test on this issue be evidence of what his true motives are?
