If you live within the Dothan city limits, you must have a burn permit before you can burn trash. In some instances, a burn permit will be issued, but there are exceptions: electronic items, tires and other items that can produce hazardous vapors will have to be disposed of in another manner.
When a citizen burns without a permit, the Dothan Fire Department will be dispatched to extinguish the fire. And now you are still stuck with the trash only now it is a soggy mess.
Generally, there is not a fine for the first offense, but if the trash pile is re-lit, the Fire Marshall will be paying you a visit. And at that point, it gets expensive!
Call the city at 615-3000 to ask about and obtain a burn permit.
