HOUSTON COUNTY:  Houston County Sheriff Deputies, Kinsey Police and Alabama State Troopers and other agencies are in the Kinsey area on a manhunt of the Daryl Matthew Gumm subect that cut his ankloe monitor off earier this week.


Multiple law enforcement units are in the area looking for the suspect. He was in jail on drug charges. He was released on an ankle monitor. He cut the ankle monitor off and law enforcement has been looking for the subject.


Earlier today Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes and other officers chased the suspect on a motorcycle but were unable to locate. There were then reports he stole a vehicle.


Information is that he has been spotted in the Kinsey area. He is considered armed and dangerous. Information is that he has made the statement that he would not be taken alive by law enforcement.

Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes has instructed all  home owners in the Webb to Kinsey Road area, Bill Yance Road area, Gilley Milll Road area, Country Garden area secure your homes and do not open your doors for anyone you do not know.


The suspect was encountered by an Alabama State Trooper he pulled a gun on the Trooper. He is reported to be wearing a black jacket.


Law enforcement has the area surronded and call 911 or 677-4808 if you hear or see anything.l

The subject could have a shaved head or real short hair at this time. Airsupport is in the air at this time and K-9's on the ground.

Law Enforcement are still in the same areas as described earlier. Track K-9's are on the ground and Dale/Houston County Air units is overhead. Headland Police and Henry County Sheriff Deputies are on the scene assisting in the search.

Houston County Sheriff Lt. Randy Anderson has called the ground and air manhunt search in the Kinsey area.


The search has failed to locate the suspect.  The search has been a ground search with K-9 track dogs and an air search which involved helicopters with night vision equipement.  The helicopters were from Dale County Sheriff Department and the Alabama State Trooper helicopter from Montgomery was flown in to assist in the search.


The search involved multiple law enforcement agencies – Houston County Sheriff Department, Henry County Sheriff Department, Kinsey Police, Webb Police, Headland Police, Alabama State Troopers and Dothan Police. The Kinsey Volunteer Fire Department provided rehab to the officers with water, coffee and other needs.


Earlier today Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes and Deputy Rick Clemmons encountered the suspect in a vehicle chase near Ashford.  The subject was on a motorcycle and was able to elude the officers. Later the suspect was reported to have knocked on a door. When no one answered he found a farm truck with the keys in it and stole the truck.


Houston County Sheriff Deputies were able to get a vehicle description quickly. Sheriff Communications got the stolen vehicle description broadcast to multiple agencies. An Alabama State Trooper encountered the stolen vehicle and suspect on the Webb to Kinsey Road. A brief chase took place.


The subject is reported to have displayed a firearm to the Trooper as he fled into the wooded area on foot following the chase.


Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes was able to have officers  setting up a permiter of the area within minutes of the chase. Sheriff Hughes responded multiple ground and air support to the scene. After an extensive manhunt they were unable to apprehend the suspect.


The suspect is considered Armed and Dangerous. His dangerous is believed to be more towards law enforcement when confronted, With that said though, NO ONE should attempt to encounter the suspect.


The jail photo does show long hair. It is believed his hair is cut shorter at this time.

Do not continue this. Your legal problems are solveable legal problems. It is my understanding your criminal record is not that bad. You are compounding the problem. End this peacefully.
