On Monday October 21st 2014, Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Uniformed Patrol Division made contact with Nathan Allen Saldana at the T.A. Travel Center located on Hwy 71 south in Jackson County. The contact was initiated when Nathan flagged down a deputy during routine patrol and reported that he had been robbed on a previous date. Nathan was unable to provide any detail on the alleged robbery, time frame, location or suspect description. It was learned that Nathan was traveling from Texas to Miami but could not provide a specific destination or reason. Further investigation determined that the vehicle Nathan was driving was bearing a Texas license plate but was not registered to him. Nathan alleged that he had purchased the vehicle a few days ago from a Hispanic male at a gas station, but had no bill of sale. During this time, a female was discovered to be sleeping in the back seat of the vehicle. Nathan told deputies that she was his friend from Texas but did not know her name. During the contact with Nathan, deputies noticed several indicators that led them to believe Nathan was involved in illegal activities. Further investigation led to deputies initiating a probable cause search of the vehicle based on a K-9 alert to the presence of an odor of narcotics emitting from the vehicle. The subsequent search revealed approximately 1.5 grams of suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia consistent with the use of narcotics. The Female subject in the vehicle was identified to be Courtney J. Plummer. At the conclusion of the investigation, Nathan Saldana and Courtney Plummer were placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were lodged in the Jackson County Jail to await first appearance.
