Jackson County Sheriff's Office Charges Man with Making a Bomb Threat

On Wednesday November 26th, 2014 an employee of Assurant Insurance Company, located at 11222 Quail Roost Drive Miami, Florida, contacted the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office regarding a threat.  The employee advised that on 11/25/2014 at approx. 10:12 a.m. (E.S.T.) someone called in a bomb threat to their main building in Miami, Florida.  Approx. two thousand people were evacuated from the building and the police department was contacted.  The phone call was recorded and traced to a pay phone at the Florida Welcome Center in Campbellton, Florida.  The employee advised that an ex-employee, Michael Paul Pharmer, was possibly responsible for the threat. 


            Investigators contacted employees of the Florida Welcome Center and obtained a video from their surveillance system showing a subject matching Pharmer’s description in the building.  The employees also advised that this subject was acting strange and requested change for the pay phone.


            On Tuesday December 2nd, 2014 Investigators made contact with Michael Paul Pharmer near his residence on Filmore Drive.  Pharmer was taken to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for questioning regarding the bomb threat made to Assurant Insurance Company.  In a Post-Miranda statement, Michael Pharmer admitted to making the phone call to Assurant Insurance Company in Miami, Florida and reporting that a pipe bomb was going to go off.  Mr. Pharmer also admitted to making a bomb threat to Assurant Insurance Company on October 20th, 2014.


            The State Attorney’s Office issued a capias for Michael Paul Pharmer and on Thursday January 8th, 2015 he was arrested at 4745 Hwy 90 Marianna, Florida without incident and taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility.  Michael Paul Pharmer was charged with Making False Report about Planting Bomb/ Explosive.
