At approximately 12:30 p.m. this afternoon, Walton County Sheriff’s Office received information that Joseph Brown Sr. was at his home at 1759 Red Hill Road in Ponce De Leon. Brown Sr. was reported as an endangered missing person last night after he left Healthmark Regional Medical Center against medical advisement and was being treated for mental instability.
Deputies arrived at the home to find a relative present who denied Brown was there. Law enforcement were allowed to come inside and made contact through a bathroom door with an individual who claimed to be a female family member. Deputies were able to ascertain the individual inside the bathroom was Brown. Brown barricaded himself in the bathroom and it was believed he was armed with a shotgun. Deputies exited the home and negotiators and SWAT team members were called out to the scene to assist. SWAT members made entry to the home, retrieved Brown from the bathroom shower and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center for mental evaluation and treatment.
