Judge Binford Turns Down Sentence Reduction For Teacher Convicted Of Teen Sex

A judge has denied a request from a former Eufaula school teacher convicted of having sex with a teenage boy that would have essentially cut her sentence in half. 

Carrie Smith Perkins, 31, had sought to have two seven year sentences, one each for rape and sodomy, run concurrently.  Circuit Judge Butch Binford ordered the prison terms be served consecutively when he sentenced Perkins in 2011. That means one sentence must be completed before the other one begins.  Had Binford agreed, the two terms could be served at the same time and Perkins released from prison earlier.
