A Houston County judge rejected a Dothan city commissioner’s argument Tuesday that his misdemeanor assault conviction was faulty because the judge presiding over the case was appointed by someone not authorized to make the appointment.
Circuit Judge Michael Conaway ruled Tuesday that District 2 Commissioner Amos Newsome received a fair trial in April from special appointed Judge Carl Chamblee despite Chamblee’s appointment coming from the city manager, when only Dothan’s mayor is lawfully authorized to make the appointment.
