HOUSTON COUNTY: On May 23, 2013 there was a drive by style shooting assault on East Washington Street in Dothan. The arrest warrants indicate the suspect "retrieved a handgun and shot into a crowd of people".
Dothan Police Criminal Investigator Scott Owens was in charge if the investigation. The crime scene, investigated by Jon Thomas of DPD, and the investigation by Owens and other investigators and Dothan Police Patrol led to several suspects.
One suspect, Carenilus Keon Sandifer, was arrested and booked into the Dothan City jail and Houston County Jail.
Sandifer was convicted of Assault in the first degree and Assault in the second degree.
Today Sandifer, born in 1990, stood before Twentieth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Mike Conaway for sentencing. When Judge Conaway asked Sandifer if he had anything to say before sentencing. He did not.
Judge Conaway sentenced Sandifer to 40 years on the Assault in the first degree conviction. He then sentenced Sandifer to 20 years for the Assault second conviction. Consecutive.
Consecutive means, serve the first 40 then begin on the second 20.
There are other suspects that have been on the run in this case and have yet to be arrested.
Good job to Dothan Police in the investigation and conviction of the suspect.
