LEE COUNTY: The trial of Alabama Speaker of House Mike Hubbard was to kick off today. Hubbard was indicted by the Luther Strange Grand Jury for 23 counts of ethic violations.
This week the court is closed to the public. The prosecution led by former Federal Prosecutor Matt Hart and the defense team begins with the task of selecting 12 men and women from Lee County as the jury.
The jury selection is expected to take all week.
The only court filings has been the withdrawal of one of the prosecutors from the Attorney General's Office. That motion was granted today by Circuit Court Judge Jacob Walker. That is been no big deal because his specialty is appellate issues. And those issues were pre-trial motions which had been filed.
The trial will begin on Monday the 24th.
Sandra Walden will be covering the trial beginning then.
