Ashford — Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity will celebrate the construction of its 123rd home at a dedication ceremony Thursday, December 4th at 2185 Ashford Road, Ashford. The new homeowners, Velma Henderson and her daughter Brandice, are very thankful to all those who worked so hard to help them reach this goal. Many different organizations helped to make Ms. Henderson's home a reality. They include: Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity Women Build, Wal-Mart, Nypro, and Custom Roofing and Construction.
The family will be presented with the key to their new home as well as a Bible. The Henderson’s and their friends and family have performed 500 sweat equity hours working on their home and the homes of others as a requirement for becoming Habitat homeowners.
Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity and the Henderson’s would like to invite the community to celebrate with them as well as the volunteers who spent many hours of their free time to help build this home. The dedication and celebration of the home will be at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 4th.
Through donations of money and materials and volunteer labor, Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity was able to build the home and sell it at an affordable price. The Henderson’s will purchase the home with a no-profit loan, and their monthly mortgage payments will be used to continue the mission of eliminating substandard housing in the Wiregrass.
Amy Schutz, Executive Director with Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity, said "We are so blessed to be able to celebrate home dedication with new homeowners. They have worked hard to see this day become a reality and it is a privilege for us to be able to hand over the keys to their new home."
