DOTHAN, AL- The Wiregrass’ first KCBS (Kansas City Barbecue Society) sanctioned barbecue competition will take place October 5-6, 2012 at Houston County Farm Center in Dothan, AL. The fun contest will offer $5,000 in cash prizes and will offer very low entry fees for participants. The event is free for spectators to attend!
The competition will be set in an Oktoberfest-themed setting, offering spectators live music and many fun activities as well as the opportunity to sample competition quality barbecue. The event is being called “PorktoberQue”, because of the combination of pork, October fest and Barbecue.
There will be varied and unusual entertainment at the vent, from a polka band (The Polka DOTs) to fire swinging demonstrations and of course rock and country music throughout the day. The entertainment is scheduled on Friday October 5 from 5-9pm and Saturday October 6th from 10am-9pm in the “Five Star Credit Union Festhaus” on the center of the Farm Center midway. Additional activities and refreshments will be in the Biergarten tents on each side of the midway.
Yuengling Beer, America’s oldest brewery, has been named the Official Beer of PorktoberQue, and they will have their traditional lager, light lager and their award winning seasonal Oktoberfest available for sale. There will also be a wide variety of vendors selling food, merchandise and barbecue related items.
Teams are still needed to compete, and there are only 30 total spaces available for teams at the event. PorktoberQue will use KCBS rules, scoring, and cook the traditional four meats with 30 minute turn-ins. Prize money for the competitors will be as follows:
Prize money for 2012 PorktoberQue- $5,000.00
Grand Champion $1,150
Reserve Champion $750
Payouts through 5th place in each meat (Chicken, Pork Ribs, Pork, Beef Brisket)
First Place- $225
Second Place $175
Third Place- $150
Fourth Place $100
Fifth Place $75
