I contacted Sue Infinger yesterday, as the search for her daughter, Kemberly Ramer, was taking place out on County Road 412 in Elba, AL. I asked Mrs. Sue if she would be willing to give an interview. She agreed to answer my questions, without hesitation. However, she couldn't meet me in person because she has been busy caring for her 83 year old mother. So, we exchanged messages via Facebook.

(NOTE: Some names have been left blank to protect their identities).

Me:  "I don't want any information about the case--just to be clear. I would just like to familiarize the public on what kind of person Kem was."

SUE:  "Kem was a loving girl and made good grades. She wouldn't hurt a fly! She was a normal teenager just wanting to have fun with her friends. She played softball and everyone loved her. She had alot of friends. I guess you know they didn't find anything from the search yesterday, but that is okay--it has brought her case back to life and maybe get more tips."

ME:  "Yes ma'am. I understand. I'm sorry you are dealing with so much. I pray for you. Thanks so much for this interview.

Take us back to that day...when you first received word that no one knew where Kem was. What were your initial thoughts? (How did it make you feel)? And what was it like in the days that followed?"

SUE:  "At first I thought a boyfriend may have her and not let her go. I found out she was going with that (Name with held) because when we realized she was missing, when we came to Opp, all her friends were saying she must be over at (Name with held)'s house--but she wasn't. I started to get scared and wondered what in the world could have happened. (Name with held) said she had gone over there early Saturday morning and Kem's car was in the yard but no one would come to the door. At first I thought she had maybe gone to Troy with some of her friends to visit other friends--but that didn't happen. I was in shock. I knew she would never run away from home--she had it too good. In the days to come, I was in shock. I tried to figure out what in the world--it scared me to death. I knew something was wrong. She would not just leave. The police came in and started doing searches. At that time, we stayed at the house waiting maybe for her to call or come--she never did. I was devastated."

ME:  "It's been almost 20 years now...when you received the news that the authorities had gotten a tip as to where Kem may be found, what were you feeling?"

SUE:  "I was feeling sad in a way but then again we all want closure...It has been Hell because I know someone out there knows what happened to Kem and won't tell. I don't know how a person could live with this secret--and after all these years, her body hasn't been found."

ME:  "One more question:

To the last person that was with Kem...If that someone caused her harm, or to the people responsible for her disappearance, what would you say to them, Mrs. Sue?"

SUE:  "I think it's time to give up. We have been in so much pain and grief over the years and it's time to get closure. I will have to be able to forgive this person, who did this to my daughter, so we will have peace. If the truth would just come out. Kem's dad passed away, so it's me and Kristin waiting for closure, and of course all her friends and all."

ME:  "Thank you Sue! And I HAVE to ask you this before I can use it...

Do you give me permission to post this in an article on Rickey Stokes News? Of course I will leave out names that you provided me with during the course of our interview."

SUE:  "That's fine--Maybe that will help. I just want to thank ALL the law enforcement departments that has helped through out the years."

ME:  "You are so, so sweet for taking the time for this. I don't want anyone to be given the chance to forget about your daughter's case. I want them to be reminded of her every day, Sue! That's why I want to put this interview out there."

SUE:  "Thanks so much."

                                             (END OF INTERVIEW)

Approximately, 3 weeks ago, police received a tip from someone, giving a detailed description of the location where Kem Ramer's remains would be found. Yesterday, at around 9AM, authorities with the Covington County Sheriff's Dept., Coffee County Sheriff's Dept., state authorities, and the FBI started digging in an area behind an old abandoned house off of County Road 412, just across the Covington County line, in Coffee County. The search turned up empty handed and the search was called off. Kem Ramer was 17 years old at the time of her disappearance. The last time she was seen was August 16, 1997. She was supposed to meet up with friends early the next morning to go to the high school and get assigned parking spaces for the school year. The first day of her Senior year in high school was just days away.

This story was reported by April L. McDaniel on March 20, 2015

If you have any information on the possible whereabouts of Kemberly Ramer, please contact the Opp Police Department at 334-493-4511.
