MONTGOMERY: The Washington D.C. Public Integrity Unit will begin their second round of wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars again on Monday.
The case is where the Washington D.C. based Public Integrity Unit has brought charges against 7 Alabama people for white the Washington group has described as a conspiracy in which the casino owners and lobbyists bribed state lawmakers with case and campaign contributions in exchange for votes on pro-gambling legislation.
After the removal of two lead Public Integrity Lawyers, Peter Ainsworth and Justin Shur, the removal of several other Washington D.C. Public Integrity lawyers. The case will go to trial for the second time on Monday morning.
United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama George Beck has removed his two attorney’s, Louis Franklin and Steve Fega from the case. The case will be tried by only attorneys from Washington D.C. There will be no Alabama Attorneys prosecuting the case. According to information, both Franklin and Fega wanted off the case.
In the first trial, with 134 counts, the Public Integrity unit got ZERO guilty verdicts. Two defendants were found NOT GUILTY. The trial begins with only 33 counts against 7 defendants.
The Public Integrity Unit from Washington D.C. has been plagued with accusations of misconduct. The first prosecutor, Peter Ainsworth was severely chastised and sanctions threatened for withholding evidence. Ainsworth was removed from the trial and sent with his bags packed back to Washington D.C.
The Washington D.C. Public Integrity unit dispatched Brenda Morrison from Washington to Alabama. She has since been removed from the case. Morrison was involved the Public Integrity Prosecution of Former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens. Morrison and other Public Integrity lawyers were accused of, and Stevens conviction was overturned because of evidence of wrong doing on behalf of the Public Integrity Unit from Washington D.C.
As the second lead prosecutor Justin Shur, two weeks before the trial, left the security of the government job for private practice, defense motions were filed with more accusations of the Washington D.C. public integrity unit withholding evidence. Judge Myron Thompson denied the defense motions without a hearing on the evidence. But most Judges are real protective of the government lawyers.
The case will being with a Mr. Day as the third lead prosecutor. The government has already declared they will not call Senator Scott Beason and Judge Benjamin Lewis to the stand. In the first trial, Senator Beason forgot to turn the tape recorder off and recorded conversations where he and his fellow Republicans were calling black people “aborigines”. Beason was caught on his own tape recorder saying the bingo legislation could not come for a vote of the people, that would hurt the Republican plan to take over the Alabama Government.
The government has declared they will not call the lead FBI Agent, Keith Baker, to the stand. Just before the first trial Judge Myron Thompson said the matter of Keith Baker and the Grand Jury had to be taken up before the trial started. The Judge and the lawyers then went into the chambers outside of the public and discussed the matter of Baker and the Grand Jury. After the hearing, all documents related to this matter were sealed, and Baker never appeared in the courtroom again until the verdicts were read. Baker was never called to the stand.
In this second trial, the government has declared they will not call Baker, the lead investigator as a witness, but has sought approval of Baker to sit at the counsel table.
The records concerning Baker are sealed and no defendant or their attorney will talk about the reasons behind the hearing on Baker. The press has asked questions because it is highly suspicious. There are a lot of rumors as to some misconduct that had occurred which would come out if Baker was to testify. Another question over the Public Integrity of the Washington D.C. based group.
What was promised to the jury by the first Washington D.C. Public Integrity lawyers never occurred. With more than 12,000 secretly taped recorded telephone conversations, with Scott Beason and Benjamin Lewis secretly wearing wires recording people, with Barry Mask and Steve French, all Republican operatives, running around with secret recordings and accusations, the government failed to get convictions the first time. More than 90 not guilty verdicts.
One defendant, Senator Quinton Ross, was found not guilty. He was recently quoted as saying “ the Department of Justice came from Washington D.C. to Alabama and has shoveled out so much injustice”.
The government’s mode of operation is to break someone financially, then when they are broke, convict them.
RSN Coverage
Sandra Stokes Walden will begin her in depth coverage of the 2012 Washington D.C. Public Integrity trial next week. She will not do in depth reporting while they are striking the jury because much of the striking of the jury is done behind closed doors and outside of the courtroom. Usually the striking of the jury, while very important, is difficult to cover.
One the opening statements begin, Sandra will begin her detailed coverage of bringing you what is said in the courtroom. The articles will be posted when the court takes breaks and she can post.
Sandra sits in the media room, with her laptop on a small table, listening through monitors as the words are spoken. It is as real as we can get.
The court will not allow audio, video or still pictures of the courtroom or testimony. You can pay for the trial but have no right for it to be broadcast so you can actually hear exactly what is being said in the courtroom.
But Sandra does a great job of bringing you the detailed coverage.
Sponsors
We are looking for some financial sponsors to help with the Montgomery coverage. Sandra has to be paid, we need an economical car for her travel to and from Montgomery on, her gas and eats. We need some sponsors to help if anyone wants to help. You can call me at 334-790-1729 or email at rstokes1450@aol.com.
