It was another great BBQ weekend in Fort Gaines this Labor Day Weekend. Only a few months after hosting their first BBQ Challenge, Fort Gaines 200 kicked the Labor Day Weekend off right by serving up grand champion barbecue by "Dobey Que".  David Hair and Nick Cochran, winners of the BBQ Challenge held over Memorial Weekend, donated their time and tasty BBQ  skills to help the non profit group raise money for the upcoming 2016 bicentennial of Fort Gaines.  "They say a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and I believe that these guys embedded themselves into a few hearts this weekend", said Sheri Baker, director of Fort Gaines 200. "When someone like David offers to help you raise money it’s a gift from God! You can’t beat his credentials in the BBQ circuit and to have him available to offer his fine food to our citizens is awesome. People want to support us and giving them amazing food only makes them want to support us even more." The sale was such a hit that the group sold out the first day. "I didn’t know what to expect, but wow, I was pleasantly surprised at the response", laughed Hair. "We had so much fun in Fort Gaines that we’ve offered to come back and cook Thanksgiving Turkeys. Of course, folks can get barbecue as well."

Other civic groups cooked BBQ over the weekend to raise money for their organizations.  One such group was Clay County Toys for Santa in which Fort Gaines’ own BBQ pit master, Locke Shivers and his crew donated their time and cooking skills to sell ribs. "We sold out by lunch time," Kristie Shivers, one of the volunteers, reported. The money raised will go to purchase toys at Christmas time for local children.
