In anticipation of the upcoming weather over the weekend, we would like to remind everyone to start preparations to protect their property and have a plan if they are faced with flooding conditions. This morning local leaders, emergency response personnel and emergency managers met to develop plans for response to the possible events associated with heavy rainfall expected throughout the weekend. According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee Florida, the Wiregrass Area will experience large amounts of rainfall with this system.
"Residents in low lying areas or areas throughout our county that are prone to flooding, should be prepared to deal with high waters" said Clark Matthews, Dothan/Houston County EMA Director. According to Matthews evacuations are not expected at this point.
In anticipation of the upcoming rainfall predictions, Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams and EMA Director Clark Matthews, reminds citizens that "calls to 911 should be reserved for emergencies only." 911 should only be used to report crimes in progress, fires or request emergency medical services. Weather or storm related information cannot be given by 911 Operators. Dothan/Houston County EMA has established Help Lines to field these questions and assist our citizens. Dothan / Houston County residents in need of storm related assistance can call 334-615-HELP to access available resources. The phone will be manned from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Friday, February 22, 2013.
Continue to monitor your local media for continuing updates. Updates are also available at www.dothanhoustoncountyema.org.
