According to AL.com: Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh's proposal to create a state lottery and to allow casinos at the state's four greyhound tracks drew a lot of attention a few weeks ago but has never come up for a vote in the Senate.
Thursday was likely to be the last chance.
A Senate rule says that no bill originating in the Senate can be sent to the House of Representatives after the 26th legislative day, which is Thursday.
Senators can suspend the rule, but it takes unanimous consent, which is unlikely for Marsh's bill because some senators had already promised to filibuster against it.
Sen. Jabo Waggoner, R-Vestavia Hills, chair of the Senate Rules Committee, said the bill is not on the calendar for Thursday.
Waggoner said he met with Marsh this morning and the president pro tem did not ask to have it on the calendar.
Marsh had said Tuesday he had not given up and was still gauging support.
