DOTHAN:   What a wonderful celebration service today – celebrating the life of Jason Randolph Smith.

Jason passed away this past Saturday after a seven year battle with cancer. His life was celebrated at Covenant Methodist Church in Dothan to a packed house.

Dr. Hays McKay said Jason’s life verse was

9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

Jason and his wife Kim were two. They were described as a couple whose love grew through the adversity that life dealt them. Jason had a love for his two children, Kate and Gabe. A loving family.

Jason was a man who cared for others. A man that was kind and sincere. One who was described as a “larger than life personality.’ Someone you always enjoyed having around you.

When Jason and Kim were faced with the illness, not once did their faith and trust in God waiver. In fact, their faith and love grew stronger.

Dr. Frank Merritt described his and Jason’s time on the front porch. Just the two of them. Talking about things they love, most especially their family. Dr. Merritt though described Jason as a person, in their privates talks, as one that would pray for others. Pray for those who were having difficulty in their lives.  Jason would focus on the particular person, those having health issues, financial issues or just those having difficulty in life.

One of Jason’s friends,  Jason Sutton, said his name was “Smitty”.  One who was a treasured friend.

Jason was a Super Hero.

While I knew Jason around the courthouse. He always had a smile, a positive position. I wish the time had been taken to have known him on a more personal basis.

As you walk the days ahead and in your prayer life, please remember Jason’s wife Kim, his six year old daughter Kate, his two year old son Gabe and all of Jason’s family.
