Malone Couple Charged with Theft

On January 19, 2013 the Dothan Police Department responded to a theft in progress call involving two suspects. Police learned loss prevention employees detained Laurie Baxter after witnessing her concealing items in her purse. When employees detained her, they seized the purse which contained the stolen goods. While being detained, Laurie called to Steven Baxter with whom she was with and told him she had been caught after which he ran toward employees and snatched the purse. Both Laurie and Steven then ran from the business. A responding patrolman saw Laurie running in the ditch adjacent to Inez Road and attempted to detain her. The suspect then assaulted the officer in an attempt to flee. Both Laurie and Steven were taken into custody bringing the case to a close.

 

 

·        Laurie Baxter, white female, 31 years of age, of Malone, Florida was arrested and charged with First Degree Theft of Property and Second Degree Assault with bonds totaling $45,000. All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. 

 

·        Steven Baxter, white male, 33 years of age, of Malone, Florida was arrested and charged with First Degree Theft with a $30,000 bond. All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
