Man Arrested for Assault, Robbery and B&E into a Vehicle

On December 15, 2012 the Dothan Police Department responded to the 400 block of East Selma Street after receiving a report of an armed robbery involving a firearm assault at 4:16 a.m. Upon arrival police learned the resident of the home called police to report what she thought may be the sounds of someone breaking into her vehicle. As officers were being dispatched, the boyfriend of the resident arrived on scene and was immediately confronted before exiting his vehicle by the suspect who had made entry into the residents’ vehicle and was sitting in the car looking through the vehicles contents. The suspect, who was armed with a handgun opened the man’s vehicle door and immediately demanded money during which a struggle ensued. The suspect assaulted the victim and fired multiple shots, one of which struck the victim in the leg causing a moderate injury. The suspect then attempted to flee on foot however the suspect pursued, tackled the suspect and pinned him down until police arrived at which time he was taken into custody.
· Rashawn Lewis, black male, 28 years of age, was arrested and charged with First Degree Armed Robbery, Second Degree Assault and Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle with a $750,000 bond. All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
