On 02-15-2013 the Marianna Police Department received a call from the Department of Children and Families. The DCF Investigator advised that she was going to meet with a Child Protection Interviewer, at her office to conduct an interview with a six year old male. Smith advised they were just leaving the doctor who found injuries on the child’s buttocks that were indicative of a severe beating with a thin blunt object.
As a result of the interview it was discovered that not only did the six year old male have injuries due to a beating, but his three year old sister also had injuries to her buttocks. Over the following next few weeks multiple investigatory interviews were conducted with school employees, many family members and the primary suspect, Teddy Simpson. Teddy had been helping his mother watch the children just prior to the injuries being discovered. After much family turmoil Simpson came forward and admitted to causing the injuries while spanking the children.
Simpson is being charged with two counts of child abuse. On 03-15-2013 Simpson turned himself in at the Marianna Police Department in reference to the above described charges.
