Marianna Man Charged with Improper Exhibit of a Firearm

On November 30th, 2014 at approximately 6:55 p.m., officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to KFC on Lafayette St. in reference to a verbal disturbance. Once on scene Officers were able to resolve the verbal disturbance. Once the verbal disturbance was resolved Officers were made aware by an independent witness whom was not involved in the disturbance that a subject had pulled a firearm from his vehicle and had brandished it in the crowd during the verbal disturbance. The subject was identified as Charles Brandon Maphis whom was detained at that time. Maphis did admit to having the firearm in his hand and the firearm was recovered from Maphis vehicle which is where he had placed it prior to Officer’s arriving on scene. No parties involved were willing to sign a complaint against Maphis however based on his admission and the account of the independent witness, Maphis was arrested and is charged with Improper Exhibit of a Firearm. Maphis was transported to the Marianna Police Department for processing and later transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility where he will await first appearance.
