On April 5th, 2015 at approximately 2:43 a.m., officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to a call for assistance in reference to a subject outside of a residence beating on the door and asking for help. Upon arrival contact was made with a subject who was identified as Corey Williams. Officers observed Williams lying in front of the residence’s front door. Williams advised officers that someone was chasing him but was unable to provide any further information as to who may have been chasing him. Williams was extremely intoxicated and officers made the decision to place Williams in protective custody at the Jackson County Correctional Facility. Once officers arrived at the jail with Williams and attempted to get him into the jail, Williams became unresponsive to officers and Jackson County Fire Rescue was called to medically clear Williams. Williams remained unresponsive to officers and at some point became unconscious. Jackson County EMS transported Williams to Jackson Hospital where he was later pronounced dead by Jackson Hospital staff. The cause of death is undetermined at this time and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was called upon to work the death investigation due to Williams being in the custody of Law Enforcement at the time of his death.
