Barbara is a long-time volunteer at Hidden Springs Horse Rescue in Marianna, FL.  She devoted her time every single day, without fail for almost 7 years.  She has a heart that is so sweet and pure.  She loves animals and is one of the kindest most upbeat people you will ever meet.

On a morning in early February, Barbara had an accident while at home.  She fell and landed on her head and is now paralyzed from the neck down.  She has only limited movement of some of her fingers.  There is a chance that she could re-gain some mobility but only with extensive therapy.

Unfortunately, her insurance will not pay for in-home care for her. She is not married and has no one at home to help care for her.  Her son lives with her but he is a truck driver so not able to provide around the clock care.  So, the doctors transferred this vibrant, up-beat woman to a local nursing home against protests from her close friends.  When her friend Melanie went to visit her at the nursing home, Barbara had changed from a positive, happy person to a depressed woman who said she was miserable, not being well cared for and she would rather die than to live in the nursing home.  She was not receiving any sort of therapy in there.

After less than a month in the nursing home she developed a pressure ulcer because the nursing home staff was not turning her or moving her frequently enough.  5 days ago she was transferred to the hospital.  Her ulcer had become necrotic and she now has sepsis (bacterial infection in her blood).  We are hoping to have her transferred to the Nolan Wound Care Specialty Clinic in Dothan, AL because she needs long term antibiotic therapy and extensive wound care from a specialist.  Once we clear that hurdle and get her infection taken care of, we NEED to get her back home with the aid of home-health care so that she can start receiving physical therapy and hopefully regain some mobility but also, so this woman can enjoy life again.

Please, if you are able, donate to help us get Barb back home! If you would like to help you can make your donation at www.youcaring.com/barbaverys
