Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program Offered in Dothan

Are you interested in sharpening your gardening and landscaping skills? Do you enjoy helping and educating others? If so, the Houston County Master Gardener Course will be offered Wednesdays, January 7th – March 25, 2015 at the Houston County Farm Center in Dothan. The purpose of this nation wide Extension education program is to train interested gardeners to help others solve their home horticulture problems. The course is designed for non-professionals with an interest in increasing their gardening skills and helping others with the knowledge they’ve gained.
The course will last twelve weeks and after completing the course, Master Gardener interns will give 50 hours of volunteer service to Extension and their communities. Specialists from the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and Auburn University will be the instructors for the course. The topics to be covered include Soils and Plant Nutrition, Plant Physiology, Entomology, Herbaceous Plants, Plant Pathology, Care of Landscape Plants, Landscape Design, Plant Selection, Lawn Care, Weed Identification and Control, and Fruit and Vegetable Gardening.
