DOTHAN:   Tonight Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz was on the air with The Meck on 100.5 FM.

Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz made a huge announcement that Dothan is in the running for the host city of the first ever Asian Manufacturing Association Annual meeting that is held in the United States of America.

Mayor Schmitz hates to fly. In fact, he hates to fly so much he literally sweats before he enters the plane. However, Mayor Schmitz did what he had to do in order to work to make Dothan better and get jobs for the workforce of Dothan.

Mayor Schmitz recently spent two weeks in the China -  Asian Countries working to form relationships and introduce Dothan to the China - Asian manufacturing community. Mayor Schmitz said any pre-conceived ideas about what is was like in those countries were wiped out after his visit to the country.

The labor cost has increased in China and the Asian markets. They realize with the label "Made In The U.S." the items will sell anywhere and all over the world. The market is different today than it was three (3) years ago. Today there are 300,000 million people in the middle class in those countries. They are very pro business with a tremendous amount of respect for the United States of America.

Mayor Schmitz said the smallest city he visited during his trip was 4.8 million people.

Mayor Schmitz said there were no deals made on the trip. The purpose of the trip was to create relationships and encourage them to invest in Dothan Alabama. Mayor Schmitz said "prospecting to invest". Mayor Schmitz said he was selling them on the people of Dothan and if he could get them here then the people will sell our community and workforce as we show case to the leaders.

In China and Asian countries Mayors are appointed. There the Mayors are big time respected leaders. While there Mayor Schmitz described how they were treated like royalty. The red carpet was rolled out with police escorts in one city.

The China - Asian markets will hold their first American Manufacturing meeting in the United States sometime this year. There will be an announcement on June 12 in Washington D.C.

Mayor Schmitz announced tonight, and first on The Meck Show, Dothan is in the running with Washington D.C., New York, Charlotte North Carolina for the meeting. There will be some 400 to 600 Chief Executive Officers from China and Asian countries at this meeting. Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz is doing all he can do to get the meeting in Dothan. On June 12 we will know.

Mayor Schmitz said this is a once in a lifetime chance for Dothan. It will be great if successful for them to meet in Dothan. Then the people can do as only Dothan can do, show them what a great place we are to live, work and play.

Mayor Schmitz told The Meck, it begins with relationships - followed with a trust level - and then develops into doing business together.

Mayor Schmitz will leave on Tuesday for Los Angeles California for a meeting with Mercedes. Mayor Schmitz owns Mercedes of Dothan, Hyundai of Dothan and Mazda of Dothan

From Los Angeles Mayor Schmitz will suck it up and fly to New York and then to Washington D.C. where the big announcement of June 12 will be made. If successful, Dothan will roll up the sleeves as a community and get it ready for the 400 - 600 CEO's to visit America, but more importantly visit Dothan.

Ladies and gentleman, something you need to know...many of these trips Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz funds himself personally and through his businesses - Mercedes of Dothan, Hyundai of Dothan and Mazda of Dothan. He does not let Dothan pay for these trips or if he does, Dothan does not foot the bill for all of the trip. Man of the trips to get Commercial Jet to Dothan were funded by Mike and Sandy Schmitz and the dealerships.

He should let Dothan pay for the trips but he is working to bring jobs to our community. He loves Dothan and his motto in business, in life and as Mayor is...GO GO GO!!!!
