MONTGOMERY: Victoryland’s Milton McGregor responds to Alabama Governor Bob Riley and court ruling.
McGregor say’s Alabama Governor Bob Riley is “once again being intellectually dishonest with the media and the citizens of Alabama just as he was when his cousin, Judge Lynwood Smith ruled on a case in Madison County”.
McGregor went on the say that “ today’s ( Friday’s ) ruling applies only to Lowndes County as the court itself acknowledges. This is a preliminary ruling on a preliminary injunction issued by the trial court in Lowndes County”.
In the court’s ruling, Justices Woodall, Lyons and Cobb point out the Supreme Court opinion issued on Friday is in no way authoritative.
The Justices warn in their opinion the Supreme Court should “ not allow the judiciary of this state to become a political foil or a sounding board for topics of contemporary interest”.
McGregor say’s Alabama Governor Bob Riley is a “hired gun for the Mississippi Indian Casino owners. When you consider the amount of money Bob Riley has received from the Mississippi Indians to protect their business interest at the expense of the citizens if Alabama it is truly disgusting”.
What McGregor is referring to is a June 2006 final report of the one hundred and ninth Congress Committee On Indian Affairs. The report is a result of Republican U.S. Senator John McCain calling for the investigation. McCain served as Chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee.
The investigation took two years and was conducted by the U.S. Justice Department, FBI, IRS and Department of Interior.
The report , on page 48, states “ Abramoff and Scanlon would cite their association with the Choctaw in furtherance of their scheme to defraud the tribe: when Abramoff pitched Scanlon in connection with a plan to elect Louisiana officials calculated to be supportive of the Tribe’s gaming interests, called the Louisiana Political Program, Abramoff told Worfel that Chief Phillip Martin had spent $ 13 million to get the governor of Alabama elected to keep gaming out of Alabama so it wouldn’t hurt…his market in Mississippi”.
The report, page 353 “ Abramoff’s and Scanlon’s guilty pleas. On November 17, 2005, Scanlon pled guilty to, among other things, conspiracy to (1) the defraud some of the tribes under ( quotes law ) (2) to defraud and deprive some of the tribes of Abramoff’s honest service ( quotes law ). On January 3, 2006, Abramoff pled guilty to, among other things (1) conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud (2) conspiracy to commit honest services wire and mail fraud and (3) honest service mail fraud.
When Bob Riley served in the U.S. Congress, Scanlon served as Riley’s Press Secretary. Both Scanlon and Abramoff pled guilty in Federal Court and are in prison.
Riley Insider Bill Johnson said in a recent press conference that he feels the bingo actions of Alabama Governor Bob Riley are being fueled by the Indians and directly linked to Alabama Governor Bob Riley in the form of campaign donations.
( NOTE: Bob Riley can not, by law, seek re-election. Bill Johnson is a candidate for Governor, but was Chief Administrative Assistant to Riley when he served in Congress and managed Riley’s Governor campaign. He was also director of ADECA in the Riley administration and got married in the Alabama Governor’s Mansion. Clearly a Riley camp insider.)
Eliminating electronic bingo in this state will give the Indians a monopoly. The Indians are regulated by Federal law, while Country Crossings, Victoryland and other venues are mandated by state law. If they are eliminated the Indians will have no competition and pay no taxes.
