DOTHAN:    On Christmas Eve Dothan Police Officer Mark Foster passed from this world to heaven. Officer Foster’s death was sudden and unexpected. Just the day before for 12 hours Officer Foster worked the streets of Dothan amking it a safer place for us to live, travel and work.

Officer Foster leaves behind his wife Crystal, son Caleb who is attending Auburn University and daugter Hannah age 15 who is in high school in Dothan.

Friends of Officer Mark Foster have set up a Mark Foster Memorial Fund at Servis1st Bank in Dothan. The account is known as the Mark Foster Memorial Fund. Anyone wishing to donate came go by Servis1st Bank at Cottonwood Road and Ross Clark Circle or 4801 West Main Street in Dothan. The mailing address is Servis1st Bank, Post Office Box 6456 Dothan Alabama 36302.

In the words of Dothan Police Chief Greg Benton, Officer Mark Foster "he was as fine a man as God had put on this earth". This morning in a conversation with Former Dothan Mayor Chester Sowell, he described Officer Foster as one who should be a training officer for others because he always treated everyone with dignity and respect, being courteous and professional.

Officer Mark Foster was assigned to traffic division. He loved his work as a Dothan Police Officer. He went about doing his job quietly, and you never knew if Mark Foster had a bad day. His attitude was always positive, he always seemed to do the right things.

In a conversation with his friend this morning I mentioned Mark was at the lake severall years ago when he came up on a boat where a man had just drown. Officer Foster and his friend were at the lake enjoying the day with their family. After sitting there for over an hour with no shirt in the hot sun waiting, his friend as Foster - now why are we sitting here waiting. Foster’s reply "because it is the right thing to do". So they waited until emergency responders arrived and took over the scene to begin the search for the Ashford man that had drown.

Mark Foster is a product of the Dothan City Schools. Born and raised in Dothan. His mother passed away a number of years ago. His dad, Emory,  was a long time sales manager of Dothan Buick Company. My dad, who has been dead since 1985 bought many a Buicks from Emory on a handshake. Mark has a brother, Jeff, who is a Dothan Paramedic with Dothan Fire Department.

NOTE FROM RSN:

We offered to the family to live stream the funeral services of Dothan Police Officer Mark Foster. The reason a lot of emergency service workers would like to attend however, the emergency service has to continue to serve while the memorial services go on. The family has accepted our offer. At 10:00 AM, if all technical issues co-operate, the memorial service for Mark Foster will be live on RSN for those who have to work and can not attend the services.
