Several weeks ago during a June Commission Meeting, I raised the issue of traffic congestion at the Ross Clark Chick-Fil-A. I brought up this matter due to frequent phone calls from residents that were nearly involved in accidents during the business’ peak times from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Since the Commission meeting, I along with the Mayor and the City Manager met with RCC Chick-Fil-A owner Jim Bradburn to discuss options to help alleviate the concerns/frustrations expressed by you. One solution suggested by Mr. Bradburn and City of Dothan traffic engineer would be to add an additional lane between his restaurant and the carwash that would allow vehicles an access lane to Sam’s should traffic into Chick-Fil-A continue to back up on to the private drive. I have attached in PDF format a sketch design of the additional lane. In addition to the additional lane, one idea might be close the left turn lane on the Ross Clark Circle into the private drive. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Mayor agreed to work with Sam’s, the CM agreed to work with the city traffic engineer and I agreed to continue lobbying ALDOT (Alabama Department of Transportation) for better solutions not only at the Sam’s/Chick-Fil-A location but also for Phase II of the RCC project which included Montgomery Highway to the Wells Fargo Tower. I appreciate Mr. Bradburn’s help and understanding of the situation. He not only runs a great business, but is a good man.Infrastructure ProjectsAs many of you know, an estimated $30 million of roadwork to include resurfacing and repaving of roads is underway or will begin soon in our City. Some of the funding for this infrastructure is being funded through stimulus grants with most coming from budget planning by the City Commission. Irregardless of what pot of money the funding comes from regarding the aforementioned work it could not be done without the help of you and me- the taxpayer. I thank you for allowing us to utilize dollars to better deal with problematic roads and better equip our City for the possibility of future investment by new prospective businesses.
