On July 20, 2012, deputies with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) conducted a traffic stop at US Highway 98 and Destin East Mobile Home Trailer Park. The vehicle was occupied by John Hulgan, 65, of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Amanda Drake, 26, of DeFuniak Springs, FL, and Carol Drake, 24, of DeFuniak Springs, FL. During a search of the vehicle, deputies located chemicals that were consistent with manufacturing of a methamphetamine lab.
Narcotics investigators were called to the scene to assist in the search and processing the vehicle. The investigation revealed chemicals necessary for the “Shake and Bake” method of manufacturing methamphetamine. One of the chemicals located in the vehicle had already been broken down and prepared for the “Shake and Bake” process. Subsequently, all three of the vehicles’ occupants were arrested.
Amanda Drake was arrested and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Manufacturing Methamphetamine. Carol Drake and John Hulgan were arrested and charged with being Principles in the First Degree to Manufacturing Methamphetamine.
The three were transported to the Walton County Department of Corrections for first appearance.
