Baker, FL (October 12, 2009) –

At around six o’clock tonight, Walton County Sheriff’s investigators assisted by Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested the suspect involved in last week’s hold-up of the Coastal Bank Branch on Miramar Beach.

Tonight’s arrest took place at a residence on T.W. Drive in Baker, Florida.  The suspect, Wayne Francis Alderman, surrendered to authorities without incident.   The 49-year-old is reportedly a drifter who is often seen in Northern Okaloosa County and the surrounding area.

The distribution to the media of the bank security camera pictures of the suspect is credited with helping in the arrest.  Walton County Sheriff’s officials received a tip to Alderman’s location.

At around two o’clock Friday afternoon, Alderman walked into the Coastal Bank Branch and demanded that the teller hand over the cash receipts, and then fled the bank on foot.

Walton County Sheriff Michael A. Adkinson Jr., says “this case demonstrates the important need for a crime scene unit”.  Recently, the Sheriff’s Office received word from the Nation’s Capitol that it’ll receive more than an eight-hundred thousand dollar rural assistance grant to purchase a CSI unit along with the personnel to go with it.

Tonight, Alderman is charged with robbery at the Okaloosa County jail.  He’ll be first appeared tomorrow in Crestview before being extradited back to Walton County.
