DOTHAN:   On Monday evening moments after the Alabama football game Dothan Fire responded to 205 Ginnalou Drive to a structure fire.

The fire scene was within a couple of miles of Westgate Fire Station so Dothan Fireman were on the scene within minutes of the call. When the fireman arrived the residence was fully engulfed in fire.

It is unusual for a fire in a residential neghborhood that is not so late at night to be this deeply involved in fire when fireman arrive.

When the fireman arrived the reports were that people were inside. People to include children.

When people are in a fire, ALL fireman will do all they can to get to those people in the fire and save lives. The fireman will push the envelope in an effort to make entry to save people. However, when children are in the fire, while the envelope will be pushed to save adults, it makes it more intense and the fireman will push that envelope even more to make whatever efforts to make entry and save the children. That was the case Monday night. All humanly possibly, even to the point the fireman would risk their safety and lives to reach the children. However the heat and the fire was to intense and they could not reach the children in time to save their lives.

Three adults were saved and transported to the hospital. Two of the adults were transported from Dothan to Birmingham. The two children, ages 1 and 4 were found and dead on the scene.

There has been much speculation about the cause of the fire. The Dothan Fire Department and Dothan Police Department Police and Fire Investigators, Dothan Police Crime Scene Investigator John Thomas were joined by agents of the Alabama Fire Marshall's Office and Agents of the Alabama Bureau of Investigation. Investigators have sifted through all the charred remains and conduct a thorough investigation.

The investigators consider the speculation but must deal in only facts and evidence. Some of the speculation has been just that, speculation and fueled by rumors. This invesigation has had many great investigative minds involved.

Dothan Fire Marshall Chris Etheredge has said they know where the origin of the fire was however the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Investigators traveled to Birmingham to interview the two adults ( at least one the other one I am unsure if their condition has allowed interview) to get any facts and background.

Unless there is additional evidence that surfaces the investigation is closed.

To the men and women of the Dothan Fire Department that were working Monday. You are to be commended for your efforts and the risks you took on your life in an effort to save the lives in the fire.

Everyone knows, you are in the fire service to first of all save lives. We know, you will do all humanly possiible to save a life. We know when children are involved, you will do even more in an effort to save lives.

As fireman you see a lot of injury, death and destruction. You save a lot of lives. When there is a loss of life it has affects on each of you. You are in the communities prayers and we are thankful for your work. We have one request. Take benefit of the grief counselors that Chief Williams makes available. Discuss your feelings and thoughts. Do not hold your feelings and thoughts in.

Based on experience, I know what you were involved in has dramatic affects on you. The fireman that pulled the adults and children from the fire. The fireman that risked their lives to save the persons in the fire. Discuss the situation with your fellow fireman and counselors, do not hold the emotions. That is the only way you can deal with the tragic set of circumstances.

Thanks to each of you for what you do.

To the family

Our prayers are with you.
