DOTHAN: My dad and mom owned and operated Stokes Floor Covering. Now dad sold it and we are not involved in it in any way, shape or fashion today.
A name that I always heard as I grew up around the floor covering business was Hugo Griggs. And it was always used with great respect.
On Sunday evening Mr. Hugo Griggs passed from this life and entered the gates of heaven.
Today I have the pleasure of operating A - Advantage Bonding where Mr. Hugo and his dad operated their floor covering business from.
In his retirement years Mr. Hugo was very active in attending the Dothan Commission Meetings. He and I had many conversations about the current events in politics and what was going on in government.
Hey, Mr. Hugo along with Jerry Corbin even saved my life. When Dothan Commissioner Albert Kirkland wrapped his hands around my throat and placed me against the wall of the Dothan Civic Center, even at his age Mr. Hugo leaped and took Albert's hands off my throat. Even at his age I think he could have taken Albert!
Mr. Hugo worked the polling places for many years in his retirement. He enjoyed people and talking about issues.
He was very active at Heritage Baptist Church throughout the years.
Prayers go to the family of Mr. Griggs.
Funeral services to be announced.
