DOTHAN:     On Monday heaven's gates opened and Mrs. Betty Swicord entered. Arms were open wide to accept a lady who faithfully and truly believed and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior.

Your good works and deeds do not allow you to enter into the presence of Jesus Christ. Betty Swicord, along with her husband Charles performed the good deeds and works above and beyond.

All of my life they have been two of the strong and faithful servant/members of Southside Baptist Church. They shouldered a lot of the burdens of the church in making and continuing Southside's long history of Christ Centered and service to others.

But with all of Betty Swicord's worth and service to the families of Southside Baptist Church, that did not get Heaven's Gates open to allow Betty Swicord to enter.

What allowed Betty Swicord to have eternal life, to enter into the Gates of Heaven, was her total surrender to Jesus Christ, believing that HE was born of a virgin, Mary. That he walked on this earth free of sin.

It was Betty Swicord's total belief that Jesus Christ lived a sin free life. And that He was crucified on the cross for each of our sins. And then, Jesus Christ arose three days after being crucified on the cross, and later ascended into heaven to sit on the right hand throne of our Holy God.

And knowing that Betty Swicord believed totally in Jesus Christ, we know without a doubt where she is tonight. In Heaven.

Betty and Charles Swicord were strong pillars of Southside Baptist Church. They were a strong glue that bound a true group of real Christians together in the fellowship of Southside.

But that was not all. She was a faithful dedicated wife and supporter to Mr. Charles Swicord. They owned and operated Burdeshaw Bicycle and Locksmith Service. Many years youngsters rode new bikes from them.

As times changed they developed into Burdeshaw Lock and Safe.

Charles and Betty have two children, inlaws, and several grandchildren.

When I think of Betty Swicord, some things that come to my mind, a beautiful lady with a clean heart. One who put Jesus Christ first. A lady who loved her family and her church family. A lady that worked as a servant who made sure the church she believed GOD placed her and Charles to serve, survived. Survived when the devil was throwing targets trying to destroy.

I think of a very kind lady who had genuine love in her heart. She had compassion. She had integrity and wisdom.

This community lost a quiet and gentle servant. Charles Swicord lost a great and valuable wife. The kids lost a terrific mother. Southside Baptist lost a great glue to the church family.

But heaven gained another angel.

The life of Rickey Stokes is better today. Better because as I grew up at Southside Baptist Church, GOD placed examples like Betty and Charles Swicord in my life.

She fought cancer for two years. Today she is healed.

Prayers are with the Swicord family. Many thanks to God for the lives touched in a quiet way by Betty Swicord.
