Mrs. Janie Powell Passes

DOTHAN:   This afternoon Mrs. Janie Powell passed away at Flowers Hospital in Dothan.

Janie and her husband Walter were coming from Lake Eufaula to Dothan because Janie was not feeling well. It is my understanding as they got near the Westgate Fire Station Janie stopped breathing. Walter pulled into the Westgate Fire Station where firemedics immediately started emergency treatment.

Janie was transported to Flowers Hospital where she later passed away.

Many in the emergency field know Janie and Walter Powell. Janie worked for 30 years with Flowers Hospital. Janie also spent many years at Wallace College teaching emergency medical treatment. She has taught and brought along a lot of the emergency medical persons in Southeast Alabama.

Walter was a Dothan Fireman for many years. When Dothan had the three paramedic trucks, one was stationed at Central in Downtown Dothan, one at the Eastside Fire Station and one at Westgate Fire Station. For many years Walter worked the paramedic truck at Westgate and Central. He has been retired for several years.

Our prayers are with Walter and the family in the death of Janie Powell. Through the medical field they have touched many lives in the wiregrass.
