Murder Arrest From Traffic Accident In Houston County

DOTHAN: A grand jury indictment was served on Thursday on a death from a motor vehicle accident.
The arrest was of Chase Aaron Mathis of Cottonwood. Mathis was involved in a single motor vehicle accident on Highway 52 West. Killed in the accident was Jeffrey Jordan Speed.
All deaths are presented to a Grand Jury. When this accident was presented a murder indictment was returned.
Mathis was in the hospital for a long period of time following the accident. He is confined to a wheelchair since then.
While Mathis was arrested on Thursday in this case he has been in Houston County Jail since May 13, 2015. Mathis was arrested at Motel 6 by Dothan Police Department on charges of Arson 1st, Possession of a Controlled Substance and No Proof of Insurance. Since the May arrest he has remained in custody.
In the Murder case a bond has been set in the amount of $ 75,000.00. Mathis is listed on the Houston County Jail web site as having a no bond on the No Proof Of Insurance case.
Mathis had first appearance before Circuit Court Judge Butch Binford this morning.
