HOUSTON COUNTY: Last year Sam Crawford with the Alabama State Fire College came together with the Houston County Board of Education and talked about bring the Volunteer Certified Firefighting Course to the Houston County Technical Center as a new class.
After months of setting up and talking the class is finely under way. Right now this class is offered to all high school seniors and is only taught in the afternoons. Mr. Maloy hopes this class will pick up once everyone sees what this has the poetical to do.
Everyone taking part in this class and passes it will be a Certified Volunteer Firefighter. Once they graduate they will have the chance to take a 5 week course that will give them a Certification equal to that of any firefighter fresh out of rookie school.
Mr. Maloy hopes that next year they can offer an EMT course to co-inside with the firefighter course. I don't want everyone to think this is just and easy class to take for credits, cause I can assure you it is the real deal.
