Alabama hunters who tell their spouses they'll be home at "dark thirty" can be a little more precise.
For most species (such as deer), night hunting is illegal. Previously, there had been some ambiguity regarding when the hunting day began and ended.
Under a new bill passed by the Alabama legislature, "nighttime hours" are defined as "30 minutes after sunset and 30 minutes before sunrise of the following day, as sunrises and sunsets are recorded by the United States Naval Observatory."
The former legal language prohibited most kinds of hunting from "sunset to daylight."
