DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - The Wiregrass Angel House is using K-9s to comfort its clients, who've been the victims of violent crimes.
It's part of a new program in Dothan called Angel Paws.
The two therapy dogs, Cole and Luke, will work closely with victims of violent crimes and help them through the healing process.
The K-9s will provide support in court, school, counseling, medical rehabilitation, nursing homes and public awareness. They're loving, great listeners and aren't judgmental.
"If you ever have to testify in court, that's a traumatic experience. You don't know what to expect. When you look at dogs and people's interactions whenever a person pets a dog, their heart rate goes down, their respiratory rate slows and also their blood pressure goes down," said Tony Luker, Angel Paws Program Director.
