No More Golf Carts or ATV's on Dothan Streets

As a result of complaints from the Highlands residential area and in order to ensure public awareness, the following notice has been issued from the Dothan Police Department Traffic Division. 


Motorized vehicles such as golf carts and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are strictly prohibited from being operated on any public roadways.  These types of vehicles do not comply with multiple Alabama State laws.  Furthermore, these types of vehicles do not meet the requirements to be registered in this state. They are not issued nor can they display an Alabama license plate.


Juveniles under the age of sixteen are not licensed and cannot be allowed to drive golf carts or ATVs on the road nor sidewalks.  If stopped, an underage operator of these vehicles may be cited along with the parent or guardian who gave permission for them to operate.  An issued citation for these cases will result in a mandatory court appearance.


The Dothan Police Department asks that parents and owners of golf carts and ATVs take notice of the laws governing this type of vehicle operation and be aware of the consequences in allowing underage drivers to take the wheel.  These vehicles are not toys nor are they suitable for the roadways.  Please be responsible and safe in their use.
