According to WDHN: The Alabama Supreme Court ordered probate judges to stop issuing same sex marriage licenses. The ruling coming not too long after judges had to make the decision...to issue or not to issue.
"You know I wasn't trying to cause problems, I just didn't think it applied to us," said Fred Hamic, Geneva County's probate judge.
Judge Hamic wasn't the only one to think so. He accepted applications but never issued the licenses and that applied to all couples seeking one.
But today the law is clear.
"The ruling last night actually says that probate judges shall not issue anymore same sex marriage," he said. "So I mean I don't know how it can be any more plain than that."
For Hamic this has been an interesting matter. The probate judge voiced his personal opinion on same sex marriages in the beginning. He received plenty of feedback, both good and bad.
But his professional decision not to issue any licenses worked in his favor.
"We were all subjected to all kind of criticism, slander and everything else, so yes to answer your question I feel like this does sort of vindicate me somewhat," said Hamic.
As of today no one has gone to the Geneva County courthouse to ask for a same sex marriage license.
